Pernilla’s Journery

M

ade for the Foothills Food-bank Annual Charity Event, this quilt was inspired by “Elephant Run - Pernilla’s Journey" fabric line by Tina Givens and a classic Bargello pattern.  Drawing from her childhood growing up in South Africa blended with her extensive travels, Tina Given based her fabric designs on her favorite childhood book by English author Angela Carter.  Now out of print, “Miss Z” is about a girl who lived in a parrot jungle.

Bargello is a type of needlepoint embroidery consisting of upright flat stitches laid in a mathematical pattern to create motifs.  The name originates from a series of 17th-century chairs found in the Bargello palace in Florence.  Bargello quilt patterns are based on this vertical step motif.

This 66”w x 80” quilt is cotton based and uses fabric from designers Amy Butler, Vanessa Christenson, Violet Craft, Lily Ashbury and Riley Blake.  Pattern by Ann Lauer. Nitelite polyester thread by Superior Threads was used in the embroidery of the Butterfly. Indoor and natural light will both recharge the glow effect.

The quilt is titled, signed and dated on the reverse.  The quilt sold at auction in 2015.
